National Instruments PXI-6284 PXI Multifunction I/O Module

With the NI PXI-6284 (Part Number: 779122-01), PXI Multifunction I/O Module, the user can modify the scale that enables the counter to count a signal that is speedier than the greatest time base of the counter. This M Series module offers 8X and 2X prescaling in each counter (the pre-scaling capacity can be incapacitated). Every pre-scaler consists from a little, straightforward counter that counts to eight (or two) and rolls-over. This counter can run more quickly than the bigger counters, which essentially check the inverses of the smaller counter. Consequently, the pre-scaler acts as a frequency divider in the source and produces a frequency that is one-eighth (or half) of what it is tolerating. The NI device has 32 analog input channels with an 18-bit resolution.

The PXI-6284 Multifunction I/O Module offers a duplicate count prevention (or synchronous counting mode) that guarantees that a counter returns correct data in applications that use a slow or non-periodic outside source. Duplicate count prevention applies to buffered counter applications, such as estimating the frequency or period. In such buffered applications, the counter should store the number of times an outside source pulses between rising edges on the gate signal.

The PXI 6284 is run using the NI-DAQmx driver software which is compatible with software packages such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or Measurement Studio.

The NI PXI-6284 also offers a digital isolation function. Unlike analog isolators, digital isolators do not present any analog error in the estimations taken by the gadget. The A/D converter, utilized for analog input, is on the isolated side of the gadget. The analog data sources are digitized before they are sent over the isolation barrier. Likewise, the D/A converters, utilized for analog output, are on the isolated side of the gadget. The NI device has a recommended warm-up time of 15 minutes, and should be calibrated at least once every 2 years. It is equipped with 2 68-pin VHDCI I/O connectors.

The standard 3U PXI device weighs 8.1 oz. It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 ºC to 55 ºC, and a storage temperature range of -20 ºC to 70 ºC.

The PXI-6284 is available to be calibrated. While the recommended calibration period for individual parts varies, most parts should be calibrated either annually or every two years to ensure accuracy. If you need the PXI-6284 calibrated, Apex Waves provides options. We offer high-quality NIST accredited calibrations through a 3rd party, with an average turnaround time of 1 to 2 weeks. When you order the PXI-6284 with us, you can request basic (unaccredited) in-house calibration that will calibrate the part to the manufacturer specifications prior to being shipped. Call or email us today for more information about calibrating the PXI-6284!
