National Instruments PXI-7354 Stepper/Servo Motion Controller Module

The NI PXI-7354 (Part Number: 778540-04) is a Sinusoidal Commutation, 4-Axis, Stepper/Servo PXI Motion Controller Module. This model features eight 16-bit analog-to-digital converters. These converters can be used for onboard acquisition, as well as a host of triggering and advanced motion trajectory features. The NI PXI-7354 comes with an integrated nonvolatile memory, which is implemented with flash ROM. The user can have their onboard firmware contents upgraded in the field as the DSP code, RTOS, and the FPGA configuration file of the PXI-7354 are stored in its flash memory.

The NI PXI-7354 Controller has 64 digital I/O channels. It supports encoders or secondary feedback resources for axes defined as a servo. In the implementation of dual-loop control, two feedback resources are used such as in backlash compensation. To handle all signals to and from the external motion system, this module has two 68-pin motion I/O connectors and two 68-pin digital I/O connectors. The motion I/O connectors provided in this module contain all the required signals to control servo and stepper motion, such as trigger inputs, inhibit outputs, encoder feedback inputs, motor command analog, stepper outputs, breakpoint outputs, etc. The controller has power requirements of 2 A at +3.3 V, 2 A at +5 V, 30 mA at +12 V, and a maximum power consumption of 18 W.

The NI PXI-7354 comes with a sturdy yet straightforward high-level API (application programming interface) that makes it an easy to program device. With this model, the user can execute all motion control and setup functions by calling into a DLL or dynamically linked library. In addition, the user can use the full function set implementations for LabWindows/CVI and LabVIEW or call the NI-Motion libraries from Microsoft Visual Basic and C++. The software can be configured using the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool. The Ni device has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 to 55 °C, a storage temperature range of -20 to 70 °C, and a non-condensing relative humidity range of 10 to 90%.

PXI-7354 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the motion controller will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
