National Instruments 778271-01 PXI Digital Multimeter

The 778271-01, manufactured by National Instruments, is a 7½-digit digital multimeter with a voltage range of ±1,000 V and top performance. It goes by the name PXI-4071 as well. This 3U PXI module integrates the features of a digitizer and a high-resolution DMM into one unit. It is a DMM that provides accurate measurements of frequency/period, voltage/current, resistance between two or four wires, diode tests, and voltage/current. It also functions as a standalone digitizer with a maximum sample rate of 1.8 MS/s for waveform acquisition.

It measures resistance from 10 μΩ to 5 GΩ, voltage from ±10 nV to 1000 V, and current from ±1 pA to 3 A when in DMM mode. All voltage and current ranges can have DC-coupled waveforms acquired at the specified sampling rate thanks to its isolated digitizer mode.

The architecture includes an isolated digitizer with a 1.8 MS/s throughput, which permits measurements of differential waveforms at high common-mode voltage levels. Applications requiring the analysis of transients or high-voltage AC waveforms can greatly benefit from the usage of LabVIEW software, which allows users to examine acquired waveforms in both time and space.

The 778271-01 enables seamless operation with National Instruments switch solutions such as the NI SCXI-1129 high-density matrix and the NI PXI-2530 multiplexer by facilitating integration with multiplexer/matrix switch modules. When combined with NI Switch Executive switch management software, this integration makes it possible to measure thousands of channels that include different signals, including voltages, thermocouples, RTDs, and thermistors.

With auto range times ranging from 5 ms to 50 ms, the 778271-01 provides DC functionalities with fast range or function changes at 100/s. It has a maximum trigger rate of 6 kHz and a trigger delay of 2 μs. In DC, the effective CMRR is greater than 140 dB; higher values can be attained with high-order DC noise rejection. Either 10% of the range or 1 kΩ, whichever is smaller, determines the maximum 4-wire lead resistance.

In AC mode, the module supports range or function changes at 10/s, with auto range times of 250 ms. A maximum trigger rate of 1 kHz and a trigger delay of 2 μs are its characteristics. 90 pF in parallel with an input impedance of 10 MΩ yields a maximum DC voltage component of 400 V. Furthermore, an input trigger latency of 3.6 μs and jitter of less than 600 ns are offered.
