National Instruments AT-CAN/1 Controller Area Network Interface
The AT-CAN/1 is a 1-port Controller Area Network Interface designed and manufactured by National Instruments. Since it is an interfacing device, the AT-CAN/1 is structured with a high-speed 9-pin D-Sub connector in the ISA form factor. This interface can communicate with either the DeviceNet or controller area network (CAN). The NI AT-CAN/1 can be configured through software to communicate and control CAN from PC using local bus slots. The AT-CAN/1 can transfer data up to the rate of 1 Mbps. The AT-CAN/1 uses an Intel 82527 CAN controller chip for interference. The interface is in total conformity with the ISO 11898 standard for controller area networks. The AT-CAN/1 physical layer can be powered externally from the bus cable power, a DC power supply of 10-30 V, or internally from the card.
NI-CAN software offers time-critical features. In order to implement these special features, the 4.2 by 6.9 inch AT-CAN/1 interface uses an Intel 386EX embedded processor. The NI-CAN software also provides Application Programming Interfaces. These APIs help develop customized applications in accordance with testing and simulation requirement. To access these APIs, NI-CAN supports different programs and programming languages such as LabVIEW version 6.0, LabVIEW RT version 6.0.3, LabWindows/CVI version 5.5, Microsoft Visual C/C++ version 6, and Borland C/C++ version 5 and later. For analysis and configuration purposes, NI-CAN software uses the Measurement & Automation Explorer tool. For all types of configurations and tools, MAX is the central locality. MAX provides the AT-CAN/1 installation verification, creates and configures software properties for each CAN port, and cooperates with the CAN network using several tools.
AT-CAN/1 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the CAN Interface will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
