National Instruments 779944-01 C Series Motor Drive Interface Module

Part number 779944-01 from National Instruments describes the NI-9512 Motor Drive Interface Module. This module from the C Series is a single-axis stepper that features incremental encoder feedback. The adjustable accuracy of the 779944-01 allows the stepper to support full, half, and even microstep increments. 

The 779944-01 is equipped with 4 digital I/O inputs which are each software-selectable for either sinking or sourcing. When configured for sinking, the digital input operates with logic levels in the OFF state at an input voltage of ≤ 5 V. When in the ON state, the input voltage ranges from 11 to 30 V. When the module is in the sourcing configuration, these specifications are reversed. The OFF state of the logic levels has an input voltage of 11 to 30 V, while the ON state maintains an input voltage of ≤ 5 V.

There are also two digital I/O outputs in the 779944-01, setting it apart from other modules in the NI-951x family of products. Like the inputs, these outputs are software-selectable for either sinking or sourcing. These outputs have a voltage range of 0 to 30 V. 

When in active mode, the power consumption of the 779944-01 capped at a maximum of 925 mW. The module requires an external power supply, which can be connected to the module’s Vsup input on the DSUB or MDR connector. The 779944-01 achieves a maximum interpolation/spline rate of 20 kHz. 

The versatile 779944-01 weighs only 155 g (5.5 oz), and it can be connected to outside I/O devices and p-command drives. To do this, simply install the module in the chassis and then use either a custom cable or a 37-pin terminal block and cable to connect the module to the drive or other I/O.
