The National Instruments 780539-10 (sbRIO-9403) is a versatile C Series digital I/O module designed for a wide range of input/output applications. It features 32 single ended TTL digital input/output channels and offers flexible input or output configurations. The module supports shift-on-the-fly capabilities that allow users to dynamically switch between input and output modes during operation. By leveraging National Instruments’ Reconfigurable I/O (RIO) technology, users can employ the LabVIEW FPGA Module to configure this module for tasks like high speed counters, timers, pulse generation and digital communication protocols. 

The 780539-10 module provides robust electrical characteristics with a maximum input current of ± 250 µA and an input capacitance of 30 pF. The module supports an output current of up to 64 mA. It also features high speed performance with a setup time of 10 ns and a hold time of 60 ns. For output, the maximum propagation delay is 330 ns while channel-to-channel skew is capped at 265 ns. These timing characteristics ensure accurate synchronization and minimal delay between signals. In CompactRIO systems, the module exhibits a maximum transfer time of 8 µs while other chassis provides an even faster transfer time of 7 µs.

This digital module offers overvoltage protection up to ± 30 V on a maximum of 8 channels at a time. However, continuous operation at this voltage can reduce the module’s lifespan. The 780539-10 is highly reliable and durable in long term applications with a Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of 763,325 hours at 25°C. The model supports input voltage levels from - 0.25 V to 5.25 V with a minimum high level input (VIH) of 2.2 V and a low level input (VIL) of 0.8 V maximum. 

The NI 780539-10 model‘s power consumption is optimized with a maximum active mode consumption of 1 W and sleep mode consumption as low as 25 µW. This efficiency ensures minimal energy use during operation and when the module is idle. The module is compact and lightweight weighing only 150 grams. It operates reliably across a wide temperature range from – 40 °C to 70 °C and can be stored at temperatures as low as – 40 °C and as high as 85 °C. The module is rated for use in humid environments with operating humidity between 10 % and 90 % (non-condensing).
