Often called the cRIO-9111, the National Instruments 780915-01 is a rugged FPGA chassis intended for incorporating C Series I/O modules into distributed control or monitoring applications. The Virtex-5 LX30 FPGA in this chassis offers enhanced optimization capabilities for quicker code execution and more capacity. The Virtex-5 FPGAs' six-input LUT architecture greatly improves resource usage, enabling more sophisticated digital signal processing at faster speeds.
Aside from utilizing the onboard FPGA for high-speed I/O control and inline processing, engineers can program the 780915-01 in Scan Mode to quickly expand real-time systems. For high-performance signal processing or multirate control systems, the chassis is appropriate since it can accommodate numerous While Loops for parallel processing. Waveform creation and nonlinear lookup table implementation are made easier by LabVIEW FPGA Express VIs, and built-in PID control capabilities allow control system loop rates to reach 100 kHz. One further feature of the LabVIEW FPGA Module HDL Node is its ability to integrate third-party HDL cores, which means that bespoke 25 ns resolution timing, synchronization, and local schemes can be created.
The parallel RIO architecture of the 780915-01 facilitates the building of twin, triple, or quadruple redundant systems and improves operational dependability by enforcing key logic and interlocks in silicon hardware circuitry. The chassis optimizes LabVIEW FPGA code to fit into the Virtex-5 FPGAs for more operations per clock cycle. It has 19,200 flip-flops, 19,200 six-input LUTs, 32 DSP48 slices, and 1,152 kbits of embedded block RAM.
With specified consumption rates of 500 mW at +5 VDC and 2,100 mW at +3.3 VDC, the 780915-01 chassis can consume up to 2,600 mW of power. It is built for durability, withstanding operating temperatures from -40°C to 70°C, storage temperatures from -40°C to 85°C, and operating humidity from 10% RH to 90% RH, non-condensing. The chassis is IP40-rated for ingress protection and can operate at altitudes up to 5,000 meters. It also endures operating vibrations of 5 grms (random) and 5 g (sinusoidal), as well as operating shocks up to 50 g.
