The National Instruments 781210-10 is a high density 16-channel thermocouple input module designed for high channel count systems. The module is also known as NI-9213E. It offers precise temperature measurements by supporting various thermocouple types including J, K, T, E, N, B, R and S. Each channel is equipped with an internal autozero and cold-junction compensation channel to enhance accuracy and reliability. The module employs a 24 bit Delta Sigma analog-to-digital converter (ADC). This provides high resolution and high speed modes for flexibility in sampling rates and data acquisition.
In high resolution mode, each channel has a conversion time of 55 ms and a sample rate of 1 S/s. The high speed mode achieves faster sampling with a conversion time of 740 µs and a sample rate of 75 S/s. The input bandwidth of the high resolution mode is 14.4 Hz while the high speed mode offers 78 Hz. This allows users to select the optimal configuration based on their measurement needs.
The 781210-10 module features robust noise rejection capabilities with a common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) of 100 dB in high resolution mode and 70 dB in high speed mode for channel-to-COM measurements. The module’s high accuracy is supported by an overvoltage protection of ± 30 V and a differential input impedance of 78 MΩ. The cold-junction compensation accuracy ranges from 0.8 °C to 2.1 °C depending on the operating temperature range.
The NI 781210-10 module is designed with durability in mind. It supports a wide operating temperature range from - 40 °C to 70 °C and offers protection against shock and vibration. The module's environmental specifications include ingress protection of IP40 and the ability to operate at altitudes of up to 4,000 meters. The module is also equipped with spring terminal wiring which supports various wire sizes and ensures secure connections through screw flanges with defined torque specifications.
This temperature input module offers safety and isolation features including a 250 V RMS isolation barrier from channel-to-earth ground and a withstand voltage of 2,300 V RMS for 5 seconds.
