The National Instruments 783863-02 is an 8-channel RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) input module that is intended for accurate temperature readings. This module is the identifying number for the version of the NI-9216 that is conformal coated, and it is unique in that it can be used with both 3-wire and 4-wire RTD configurations. Additionally, it can automatically determine the type of attached RTD and configure each channel accordingly. When paired with per-channel current excitation, this feature guarantees precise and trustworthy temperature readings.
Two sampling modes are available for the 783863-02 module: high sample rate and high resolution. It features a 24-bit Delta-sigma ADC resolution. For applications that need accurate temperature readings, the module's high-resolution mode can reach noise levels as low as 0.001°C RMS (0.3 mΩ RMS). Where speed is more important than accuracy, the high-speed mode's noise level of 0.02°C RMS (6 mΩ RMS) is appropriate. All channels will yield consistent and reliable readings because the module supplies an excitation current of 1 mA per channel.
The 783863-02 may be stored in temperatures between -40°C and 85°C and functions dependably in a temperature range of -40°C to 70°C. The module can be stored in situations with 5% RH to 95% RH (non-condensing) and is intended to operate in humidity levels between 10% RH and 90% RH. It may be used in a variety of industrial environments because of its IP40 ingress protection rating and 2 pollution degree. It can also operate at up to 5,000 meters above sea level.
The module's performance is improved in electrically loud situations by its exceptional noise rejection characteristics in high-resolution mode, which includes an 85 dB normal mode rejection at 50/60 Hz. But it doesn't offer noise rejection in high-speed mode.
For applications subject to mechanical stress, the NI 783863-02 can withstand operating vibrations of up to 5 g RMS (random) and 5 g (sinusoidal) over a frequency range of 10 Hz to 500 Hz. It also endures operating shocks of 30 g for 11 ms half-sine and 50 g for 3 ms half-sine, withstanding 18 shocks in six orientations.
