National Instruments 784397-01 C Series Sound and Vibration Input Module
National Instruments designed the sophisticated C Series Sound and Vibration Input Module 784397-01, also referred to as the NI-9232. With the use of a Delta-Sigma ADC with analog prefiltering, each of the three analog input channels on this module can measure signals at a rate of 102.4 kS/s per channel while maintaining a high resolution of 24 bits.
Both integrated electronic piezoelectric (IEPE) and non-IEPE sensors—such as proximity probes, tachometers, and accelerometers—and their signals are perfectly captured by this module. Its ability to work with smart TEDS sensors guarantees flexible application in a range of industrial diagnostic and monitoring configurations. With a TEDS capacitive drive of 3,000 pF, the NI-9232 supports IEEE 1451.4 TEDS Class I, which improves its capacity to manage a variety of sensor types.
Advanced features such as IEPE open/short detection, software-selectable AC/DC coupling, and IEPE signal conditioning are incorporated in the 784397-01. To provide excellent fidelity in signal measurement, each channel has integrated anti-aliasing filters that automatically adjust to the sample rate. The input range for DC voltage is as low as ±30.87 V and as high as ±32.13 V; the full-scale range of AC voltage reflects these constraints and permits peak measurements up to ±32.13 V.
The module prioritizes safety and dependability by offering overvoltage protection for low impedance sources up to ±45 V. With a typical value of 4.25 mA and a noise level of 100 nA RMS, the IEPE excitation current is software-selectable, guaranteeing accurate excitation for IEPE sensors. It is guaranteed that the IEPE compliance voltage will be at least 22 V, which will accommodate a variety of sensor needs.
The 784397-01 module is designed to detect faults by identifying short circuits when the input voltage (V AI) falls below 1.5 V and open loops when V AI rises above 24 V. The isolation properties of the module guarantee the absence of channel-to-channel isolation, and a 5-second dielectric withstand test confirms that the channel-to-earth ground isolation can sustain continuous operation at 60 V DC and tolerate up to 1,000 V RMS.
