National Instruments NI-9853E CAN Module
The NI 9853E CAN Module is equipped with two individual High-Speed CAN ports. The ports are separate from each other and from other modules in the system. Both ports of this CAN Module have their own NXP SJA1000 CAN controller that is CAN 2.0B-compatible and completely supports 11-bit and 29-bit identifiers. Both ports on the NI-9853E module additionally have an NXP TJA1041 High-Speed CAN transceiver, which is completely compatible with the ISO 11898 requirements and supports baud rates of 1 Mbps at the most.
The National Instruments NI-9853E CAN Module has two 9-pin male D-Sub connectors; the connectors offer links to a CAN bus. Both ports on the module have pins for CAN_H and CAN_L. The user can link the CAN bus signals to these pins. The signals should be linked with twisted-pair cable. Both ports have two common pins, referred to as COM, which are internally attached to the isolated reference of the module and serve as the reference ground for CAN_H and CAN_L. The user can link the CAN bus reference ground to a single COM pin or both COM pins. Both ports on the NI 9853E CAN Module have an optional shield pin, SHLD, as well. The shield pin may be linked to a shielded CAN cable. Linking the shield pin may increase signal integrity and EMA performance in loud settings.
On the National Instruments NI-9853E module, CAN0 is internally powered and does not need an external power supply. However, CAN1 needs an external power supply of +8 to +25 V to function.
