National Instruments NI-9860 C Series Vehicle Multiprotocol Interface Module
The NI‑9860 (Part numbers: 783703-01 and 783703-03) is a hardware-selectable HS/FD controller area network (CAN) and/or local interconnect network (LIN) interface for developing CAN and/or LIN applications. As part of the NI‑XNET platform, the NI 9860 works well for applications requiring high-speed manipulation of hundreds of frames and signals while taking other data acquisition measurements in the same CompactDAQ hardware platform or while performing low-level FPGA control and embedded monitoring in the same CompactRIO chassis. The NI-9860 module requires an external power supply of +9 to +30 V to power the transceiver cables. Supply power to the NI 9860 VSUP connector on the module front panel using the supplied power cable. The exposed lead wires at the end of the power cable are routed as follows: black wire—COM, red wire—VSUP. The power cable lead wires may be daisy-chained to the controller power port when the controller supply voltage is in the appropriate range.
This model comes with an NI-XNET FlexRay hardware that uses a pair of NXP TJA1080 FlexRay buses per port. The TJA1080 is fully compatible with the FlexRay standard and supports baud rates to 10 Mbps. This device also supports digital power management through a low-power sleep mode. The simplest way to terminate FlexRay networks is with a single termination resistor between the bus wires Bus Plus and Bus Minus. The specific network topology determines the optimal termination values. For all XNET devices, the termination is software selectable. XNET provides the option of 80 ohms between Bus Plus and Bus Minus or no termination. The user cannot set the termination for channel A and channel B independently.
