The NI 9870E Serial Module has four individual RS232 DTE ports that are separated from the other modules in the system. All ports are completely compatible with the ANSI/EIA/TIA-232 requirements. For connections, there are four RJ-50 receptacles that can be linked to four RS-232 instruments. The user can utilize a cable that modifies the RJ-50 pinout to the regular National Instruments pinout on a DB-9 male connector. This pinout can be referenced in the user manual for the NI-9870E.
An external power supply should be joined to this National Instruments RS-232 Serial Module. The power supply delivers the power for the RS-232 transceivers on the NI 9870E Serial Module. The user can utilize a four-position pigtail to link to an external voltage foundation. The connections between an external voltage foundation of +8 V to +28 V and the module include: VSUP, a second VSUP, COM, and another COM connection.
