National Instruments 778617-04 Backplane for Compact FieldPoint
Part Number 778617-04 is the identifying part number for the National Instruments cFP-BP-4 Backplane for Compact FieldPoint. The 778617-04 can be mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail, a panel, or in a standard 19-inch rack. Note that this module is recommended for rail mounting only. However, before mounting the backplane, you must record the serial number from the back.
To mount the backplane on a DIN rail, first, you will need a number 2 Philips screwdriver and the 8-32 x 5/16 in. countersink screws shipped with the clip. Remember that you must disconnect power before removing the backplane from the DIN rail. On the other hand, to mount the backplane on the 19-in. Rack, you must fasten the rack-mount bracket to the back of the backplane using the captive screws on the bracket.
No matter the mounting method on the 778617-04, you must connect the protective earth (PE) ground terminal on the backplane to the system safety ground. During this process, you must use a 14 AWG (1.6 mm) wire with a ring lug. Likewise, a 5/16 in. panhead screw, which is shipped with the backplane, is used to secure the ring lung to the backplane PE ground terminal. When mounting the 778617-04, the user must be aware of space and cabling clearance requirements. You should allow at least 51 mm (2 in.O all around the backplane for air circulation and 38 mm (1.5 in.) below and 51 mm (2 in.) above the controller for cabling clearance.
A cFP system using the 778617-04 requires 15 W of power at +24 VDC and a power supply range of 11 to 30 VDC. The module is recommended for operation between temperatures of –25 to 60 °C at a relative humidity of 10% to 90%. On the other hand, it can be stored in between -40 to 85 °C. Note that the module will not operate properly under pollution degree 2 since it could affect the dielectric force on the instrument. Furthermore, it is recommended that the altitude where the module is operated does not exceed 2000 m.
