National Instruments 778287-01 Digital I/O Device
As a member of the PCI-6534 product series, the 778287-01 is a high-speed, 32-bit parallel digital Input/Output interface. It has thirty-two digital data lines, arranged into four 8-bit ports, each of which can be set as an input/output independently. A current of 24 mA can be supplied or sunk by each line. Applications for the device include production testing, monitoring and controlling industrial processes, and laboratory testing.
The NI DAQ-DIO ASIC, designed to provide excellent performance on plug-in DIO gadgets, is installed in this device. Up to 20 MHz can be used for unstrobed Input/Output, pattern Input/Output, and handshaking, allowing for data transfer rates of up to 80 Mbytes/s for 32-bit transfers. Large onboard memory and dependable digital Input/Output operations are combined in the 778287-01 series to provide high-speed pattern Input/Output at deterministic rates.
With two 32 MB groups of onboard memory, the 778287-01 gadget can perform high-speed, deterministic pattern I/O as long as the patterns fit into these memory groups. When using this onboard memory functionality, applications that need assured transfer rates can stop depending on the host computer bus. Users can create event-driven application programs with it, which can generate messages in response to predefined criteria like completed measurement activities, matching input patterns, or transferred byte counts.
For effective data handling, the device also has data latches and drivers. Four 8-bit ports, which can be set up for pattern input/output or handshaking, comprise the thirty-two digital input/output lines. These ports can be divided into one 32-bit group or two 8- or 16-bit groups. When set up for output, each data line has the capacity to sink or source up to 24 mA of current. The lines are diode-terminated for input setups in order to attenuate input signals at TTL levels. Each of the 32 I/O lines can be separately configured by users for either static or unstrobed I/O activities.
