National Instruments 778288-01 PXI Digital I/O Module

Commonly identified as the PXI-6534, the National Instruments 778288-01 is a flexible digital input/output module intended for high-speed control and data collecting applications. This module is suitable for industrial process control and monitoring, production testing, and laboratory testing. It has 32 digital data lines, all of which can be set as input or output, giving it a great deal of flexibility. These lines are organized into four 8-bit ports, each of which is capable of sinking or sourcing 24 mA of current, making them appropriate for a range of device drives.

The 778288-01 device's onboard memory is one of its primary characteristics; it guarantees data transfer at a set rate regardless of the host computer's bus performance. Applications that need continuous and dependable data transfer rates must have this functionality. The module guarantees excellent performance for demanding applications with speeds up to 20 MHz, or 80 Mbytes/s, for 32-bit transfers.

Utilizing the National Instruments DAQ-DIO ASIC, the 778288-01 module is optimized to improve plug-in DIO device performance. Unstrobed, pattern, and handshaking I/O are supported. There are two 8-bit or 16-bit groups, or one 32-bit group, that can be formed flexibly from the 32 digital I/O lines for pattern I/O or handshaking. Assuming logic low or high, respectively, each data line has a maximum sink or source current of 24 mA. The lines have a diode termination when they are set up as inputs, which at TTL levels dampens input signals.

Users can easily build custom programs, execute digital I/O transfers, and configure the 778288-01 device with the help of the NI-DAQ driver software. In addition, NI-DAQ offers a multitude of example applications for LabVIEW and other application development environments (ADEs) and makes it easier to share clocks and triggers between the 778288-01 and other measurement devices.
