National Instruments PCI-6503 Digital I/O Device
The National Instruments PCI-6503 (Part Number: 777690-01) board is a parallel, digital I/O interface, which can be used with PCI bus computers. This 24-bit model comes equipped with 1 x 82C55A PPI chip, which is designed to operate in unidirectional, handshaking, or bidirectional mode, and can issue interrupt requests to your personal computer. The digital input/output lines of this model are all accessible through a male connector (50-pin).
The National Instruments PCI-6503 is a completely jumpless and switchless DAQ board. At the time of startup, all of its resources are allocated completely automatically. Thus, the user does not have to set base addresses or interrupt levels manually. With this board, the user can operate their personal computer as a complete digital I/O solution and system controller in a variety of applications, such as production testing, laboratory testing, and process controlling. The NI PCI-6503 offers remarkable transfer rates up to 50 kbytes per second (max) with the help of NI-DAQ software and the constant sustainable rate (typical) offered is 1 to 10 bytes per second. The device is equipped with a 50-pin male ribbon-cable I/O connector. The PCI-6503 has 24 bidirectional digital I/O channels with a TTL compatibility.
The National Instruments PCI-6503 is designed to receive 2.2 V (Min) and 5.3 V (Max) input logic high voltage. This mode can work with −0.3 V (Min) and 0.8 V (Max). Whereas it generates 1.0 A (max) output signals through Pin 49 (at +5 V). With this board, the user can draw 2.5 mA (typical) output current. This board requires 400 mA at +5 VDC (±5%) power to operate, and the power provided at the I/O connector remains around +4.65 to +5.25 V.
The DIO device can be programmed using software packages/application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or Measurement Studio. Additionally, it weighs 1.9 oz, and measures 4.8 x 3.7 in. in physical dimensions. The NI device has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C, a storage temperature range of –20 °C to 70 °C, an operational random vibration of 0.31 grms (5 to 500 Hz), and a nonoperational random vibration of 2.5 grms (5 to 500 Hz).
