National Instruments 780218-01 Sound and Vibration Module

The National Instruments 780218-01 (or PXIe-4498) is a 16-input sound and vibration module. It is engineered for high-channel count applications. This module is equipped with 24-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) that ensuring precise measurements across a wide dynamic range. Each of its input channels is pseudodifferential that provides 50 Ω impedance between the negative input and chassis ground. The 780218-01 is particularly suitable for applications such as noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) analysis, as well as dynamic structural tests, where accurate and reliable data acquisition is crucial.

The NI 780218-01 supports a sample rate range from 100 samples per second (S/s) to 204.8 kS/s along with a resolution of ≤181.9 μS/s. The module features simultaneous sampling on all channels, which is vital for synchronized measurements across multiple transducers, such as microphones and accelerometers. The built-in anti-aliasing filters automatically adjust to the selected sample rate which ensures that the data acquired is free from aliasing effects. This sound and vibration module offers versatile data handling capabilities through its direct memory access (DMA) data transfers. It facilitates fast and efficient movement of data between the module and the host system. The 4095-sample FIFO buffer supports uninterrupted data acquisition, even at high sampling rates. The NI 780218-01 is designed to handle a maximum working voltage of ±10 V at the positive terminal and ±1 V at the negative terminal.

The 780218-01 module's AC-coupled measurement accuracy is tightly controlled along with gain amplitude accuracy within 0.1 dB when operating within 5 °C of the last self-calibration temperature, and a maximum of 0.15 dB over the full operating temperature range. The input impedance is 10 MΩ between the positive and negative inputs. The module also supports Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) according to the IEEE 1451 standard that simplifies setup and reducing configuration errors.

With IEPE excitation support, the NI 780218-01 can power sensors that require constant current, such as accelerometers, with software-selectable current settings. The module's digital trigger capabilities, along with programmable analog trigger settings, provide flexibility in triggering data acquisition based on specific conditions. The NI 780218-01 is designed for robust operation under the temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C and under 2000 MSL installation altitude. The net weight and dimensions of the unit are 326 g (11.5 oz.) and 16 cm × 10 cm (6.3 in. × 3.9 in.), excluding the dimensions of connectors.
