National Instruments 778071-03 Discrete Input Module

Part Number 778071-03 is the identifying part number for the National Instruments FP-DI-DC Discrete Input Module. The 778071-03 comes with two isolated channels, which makes it ideal for applications requiring channel-to-channel isolation. The voltage range of the module is 0 to 32 VDC while the nominal input is generally between 5 to 24 VDC. As for the voltage levels, the ON state starts with a minimum of 3 VDC, while the OFF state remains up to a maximum voltage of 0.9 VDC. In terms of current, the ON state starts from a minimum of 1.7 mA of current while the state remains OFF up to a maximum of 0.5 mA. The input impedance of the module is 1.8 kΩ while the delay time can reach a maximum of 0.4 ms. 

The 778071-03 features two green indicator LEDs, one for each channel, which indicates whether the channel is in the ON state or the OFF state. Furthermore, since each of the channels of the module is isolated, they can be used with either sinking or sourcing devices. The 778071-03 has a power requirement of 60 mW and weighs 2.1 oz. The module is recommended for operation between the temperature range of -40 to 70 °C. On the other hand, it can be stored at a wider range of -40 to 85 °C. 

This Discrete Input Module can be installed into a FieldPoint terminal base like the FP-TB-10. The terminal base supports a wide range of I/O devices and their configuration which allows the user to tailor them according to their needs. Users can install up to six dual-channel modules on a terminal base and use any combination of modules in any order. Likewise, the 778071-03 supports hot plug-and-play live insertion and swapping of modules. This allows the user to install or replace the dual-channel modules while the network module is powered and in operation. During replacement, a new module will keep the same settings as the previous module if it is of the same type. Otherwise, the terminal base requests new settings from the network module.
