The National Instruments FP-Quad-510 (Part Number: 777518-510) is a 4-Axis Quadrature Encoder Input Module. This FieldPoint module offers four position counters, as well as velocity measurement. The four position counters are provided with Phase A, B, and index input terminals. Moreover, with LabVIEW RT, the NI FP-Quad-510 can offer 32-bit counters also. The inputs of this Quadrature Encoder Input Module are compatible with differential encoders and TTL.
Like other FieldPoint modules, the NI FP-Quad-510 can easily be mounted on any available FieldPoint terminal base from where it draws power. For position counter inputs, there is a circuit provided that consists of a comparator. This comparator supports a current-limited input function, whereas the comparators output drives an ob. When a voltage above the threshold voltage is applied to the input terminal, the optoisolator is turned on by the comparison and an ON state is registered.
This Quadrature Encoder Input Module supports X4 encoding as well. The X4 encryption consumes four counts per period. Operating with four counts per period enables each axis to count as many as 1 Million counts per second. To determine each channel`s velocity, the NI FP-QUAD-510 comes with a time base counter for each axis. Channels 8 to 11 are four data registers provided to record velocity data related to axes 0 to 3 respectively. Each of these four registers contains the velocity of its respective channel in the format of "number of counts per ms (microsecond)." The National Instruments FP-QUAD-510 also comes with two status LEDs, READY and POWER.
