National Instruments PCI-1428 Frame Grabber Device

The National Instruments PCI-1428 (Part Number: 778315-01) is a Camera Link IMAQ Device or Frame Grabber Device designed for scientific imaging and machine vision applications that require high-speed and high-resolution digital imaging with simple cabling. The NI PCI-1428 features pixel decimation, onboard programmable ROI, and four 256 by 8-bit lookup tables (LUTs). The device has a maximum PCI bandwidth of 133 MB per second, and a pixel clock frequency range of 20 MHz to 50 MHz.

This device is designed to work with base-configuration and medium-configuration Camera Link cameras. The NI PCI-1428 features the PXI trigger bus or RTSI bus synchronization with motion, CAN, and data acquisition devices. Moreover, the NI PCI 1428 Frame Grabber comes with an NI counter/timer ASIC that offers real-time control signals. To facilitate high-speed image acquisition, this Frame Grabber comes equipped with 16 MB of onboard synchronous dynamic RAM or SDRAM. To interface with all Camera Link Video inputs, the IMAQ PCI-1428 features a MDR 26-pin connector. This connector is also compatible with serial interface and camera control outputs. Another 68-pin VHDCI connector is provided that connects to an external trigger signal through the IMAQ-D6804 cable.

The National Instruments NI-MAQ driver software offered with the NI PCI-1428 has a broad range of library functions, including: continuous image acquisition, single shot image acquisition, trigger control, memory buffer allocation, and device configurations. Any of these functions and various other functions can easily be recalled by the user from the ADE or application development environment–ADEs such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Measurement Studio, and Microsoft Visual Basic. National Instruments provides software packages such as NI Vision Builder for Automated Inspection, and NI Vision Development Module for analyzing and processing images. This device also offers support for medium configuration using both connectors. In this configuration, more data throughput can be achieved with the help of two data streams synchronized between the NI PCI-1428 and the camera. The device weighs 0.28 lbs, and has the dimensions: 4.2 x 6.9 in.

PCI-1428 Mature Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the Frame Grabber will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
