National Instruments 783368-01 GPIB Instrument Control Device

Part Number 783368-01 is the identifying part number for the National Instruments GPIB-USB-HS Instrument Control Device. This device can control up to 14 GPIB instruments and can be used as a portable analyzer for computers having USB ports. Using this interface, connecting a GPIB instrument to your system is straightforward, and configuration and troubleshooting becomes easy. 

The I/O connectors on the 783368-01 include an IEEE 488 Standard 24-pin connector for GPIB and a USB standard Type A plug. The module's power consumption is 80 mA at +5V in typical conditions whereas the maximum current that can be drawn is 500 mA. This device contains a multicolored LED that indicates status and activity. When the LED is alternating amber/green, the device is not ready to use and you must either install or reinstall the driver software. Note that you may not see this behavior if the device is connected to a system using Windows 8 or later as the OS suspends power to the device with no drivers installed. When the LED is steady green, it means that the device is plugged into a USB 1.1 port. Similarly, a steady amber indicates that the device is plugged into a USB 2.0 port. Lastly, a blinking amber or green indicates activity on the GPIB bus or that the analyzer is capturing. 

The 783368-01 can achieve a maximum GPIB data transfer of up to 1830 kbytes/s using the 3-wire protocol and up to 7920 kbytes/s using the HS488 protocol. The device ships with a license of the NI-488.2 driver software. The instrument measures 3.2 in. × 2.4 in. × 0.8 in. in physical dimensions and weighs 153g (including the USB cable weight). The recommended operating ambient temperature for the device is between  0 °C to 55 °C and the relative humidity is  10% to 90%, noncondensing. On the other hand, the recommended storage ambient temperature is -20 °C to 70 °C while the storage relative humidity is 5% to 95%, noncondensing.
