National Instruments GPIB-232CV-A GPIB-to-RS232 Converter
The NI GPIB-232CV-A (Part Numbers: 776669-01, 776669-02, 776669-03, 776669-04, 776669-05, 776669-06, 776898-01, and 776898-31) is a GPIB-to-RS-232 Converter. This model translates data between the two ports (GPIB and Serial port) transparently without special commands or control codes. The integrated 256 kilobyte sized RAM buffer and DMA of the GPIB-232CV-A help with the overall efficiency of the interface system. This buffer keeps the host computer offloaded during plotter and printer applications. The device has a RS232 data transfer rate of up to 38.4 kb/s. The NI GPIB-232CV-A is offered in a compact build with the power switch and indication LEDs on its front panel and ports on the rear panel.
This GPIB-to-RS232 Converter can be used with all PCs virtually. With this model, the user can link a GPIB controller to any RS-232 enabled instrument. Additionally, the user can tie an IEEE 488 (GPIB) device to any compatible PC or laptop via a computer serial port. The National Instruments GPIB-232CV-A Converter allows the user to connect a GPIB spectrum analyzer to a serial port enabled PC or it can be used to connect a serial device (with an RS-232 port), such as a plotter or printer to a GPIB network.
With this model, the user can transfer data in either direction. This device is offered in two versions: AC and DC. Like other models in this family, the NI GPIB-232CV-A can be configured to operate in either controller mode or device mode. In device mode, the unit will serve as a slave under another GPIB controller. However, in controller mode, the GPIB 232CV A operates as a GPIB controller that directs a single GPIB device to listen or talk.
The NI device weighs 12 oz. The DC version measures 3.0 x 1.7 x 4.7 in. in physical dimensions while the AC version has the physical dimensions: 3.0 x 1.1 x 4.7 inches. The converter has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of 10 to 40 °C and 0 to 70 °C respectively.
GPIB-232CV-A Obsolete Status has been declared by National Instruments, but the controller will still be available for purchase and repairs at Apex Waves.
