National Instruments ISM-7401 Integrated Stepper
The ISM-7401 from National Instruments is an integrated stepper made for use with the NI-7330, NI-7340, and NI-7350 motion controllers. With its advanced features and sturdy design, the ISM-7401 provides reliable performance for a variety of applications. The stepper operates within a range of 12 VDC to 60 VDC, providing flexibility and compatibility with a variety of power sources. The ISM-7401 is capable of operating at a frequency of 16 kHz using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), enabling precise motor control and reduced noise. The digital inputs accommodate a minimum on voltage of 4 VDC to a maximum of 30 VDC, providing compatibility with various control systems.
The comprehensive protection features of the ISM-7401 guard against over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, and over-temperature conditions, ensuring the safety and longevity of your motor and connected systems. Some of these features include an under-voltage alarm set at 10 VDC that promptly notify the user of potential power issues, and an over-voltage shutdown that shuts down the device when the supply voltage exceeds 75 VDC.
The NI ISM-7401 is available in three versions, each designed for specific applications. These include: ISM-7401 (single shaft), ISM-7401D (dual shaft), and ISM-7401E (dual shaft with a 1000-line incremental encoder).
The NI ISM-7401 is also equipped with an over-temperature shutdown mechanism that shuts down the device at 85 °C (185 °F), ensuring safe and reliable operation. To prevent overheating, it is essential to provide forced airflow through the use of a fan, especially if your operating environment lacks natural airflow or contains devices that increase the ambient temperature beyond 40 °C (104 °F). While the ISM-7401 is able to be mounted, it is recommended that the device is firmly fastened to a smooth, flat metal surface. If mounting multiple NI ISM-7401 integrated steppers in close proximity, there should be at least on half inch of space between the devices to prevent interference.
The digital output of the NI ISM-7401 closes to indicate a fault condition, allowing you to connect external devices such as LEDs, relays, or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). The connector conveniently provides access to the positive collector and negative emitter terminals of the output transistor, allowing the user to configure the output for either current sourcing or sinking.
