National Instruments 779700-01 PXI Remote Control Module

The National Instruments part number 779700-01 is used to identify the PXIe-8360 Model.  Using a fully transparent MXI-Express interface, this PXI Remote Control Module makes it easier to control PXI and CompactPCI devices from a PC. It is mounted in a PXI chassis and communicates with an installed PCI-8360 via a PCI Express-to-PCI bridge. A copper, x1 MXI-Express cable is used for this purpose.

With its flexible design, the 779700-01 operates as a cabled PCI Express x1 link, enabling desktop, workstation, laptop, or host controllers with a PCI, PCI Express, or ExpressCard slot to control devices in PXI, PXI Express, VXI, or CompactRIO chassis. With the use of a PCI, PCI Express, or ExpressCard-based PC or laptop/mobile host adapter, it allows the control of several backplanes, such as PXI, PXI Express, CompactPCI, CompactPCI Express, CompactRIO, and VXI. With the help of this module, the measurement or automation system may be physically separated from the host PC, giving system setup and maintenance more freedom.

Based on PCI Express technology, the 779700-01 may make use of PCI Express switches or PCI Express-to-PCI bridges in combination. Since this design is transparent to device drivers, PXI or PXI Express devices in the linked chassis can be supported at the CompactPCI level without the need for extra software.

The 779700-01 module requires one PXI Express system slot. Its dimensions are 10.0 x 16.0 cm (3.9 × 6.3 inches), and its weight is 0.17 kg (0.37 lb). It completely conforms to the PXI-5 Express Hardware Specification, Revision 1.0, and offers a maximum wire length of 7 meters. It has an environmental rating of 2 for indoor usage only and can function at elevations up to 2,000 meters. With noncondensing humidity, the working temperature ranges from 0 to 55 °C and from 10 to 90%. It may be stored in environments with noncondensing relative humidity levels of 5 to 95% and temperatures between -40 and 71 °C.

The 779700-01 is put through testing in compliance with MIL-PRF-28800F, IEC-60068-2-2, and IEC-60068-2-1 standards. It can withstand random vibration from 5 Hz to 500 Hz at 0.3 grms, half-sine, operational shock up to 30 g peak, and an 11 ms pulse. It can withstand random vibration at 2.4 grams per second between 5 Hz and 500 Hz while not in use.
