National Instruments PCIe-8361 Device for PXI Remote Control

The NI PCIe-8361 (Part Numbers: 779504-01, 195315B-01) is a 1-Port, 208 MB per second MXI Express Remote Controller for various systems or devices through cabled PCI from the PCI Express slot of a computer. This Remote Controller offers an x1 PCI Express link to the Remote Control Module, PXIe-8360, over a copper cable when it is employed for the controlling of a PXI system. This device can be utilized with a 1, 3, or 7 m MXI-Express x1 copper cable. The link remains transparent to drivers and software applications, so servers and regular computers can control attached devices without any need for additional programming.

The selection of this product will make it possible for the user to link more than one chassis to a host controller. To indicate out of spec power, this model’s built-in status LED will start blinking. This model supports 7 m maximum cable length and requires one standard height or low-profile PCI Slot to operate. In addition, this model is designed to comply with the PCI specifications and is software compatible with PCI. As a result, the National Instruments NI PCIe-8361 can be utilized with an application written for a PXI system controlled with a PCI Remote Controller, such as MXI-3 or MXI-4 without any necessary changes.

The PCIe-8361 doesn’t require the presence of additional software as it comes equipped with the PXI platform services software and CompactPCI support which enables the control of a PXI/PXI Express chassis using a computer.  The device can be configured using the Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) tool.

While operating on a +3.3 V power rail, this device consumes approximately 155 mA (in typical conditions) and 250 mA (maximum). The PCIe 8361 NI offers rugged connectivity and sustained throughput. With this Remote Controller, the user can utilize the PXI modules as if they are PCI devices installed directly on the computer. The user should also keep in mind there are not any requirements for the order the linked expansion chassis are powered on; the only stipulation is that they are powered on prior to the computer powering on.
