The PXIe-8383MC (Part Number: 782971-01) is an advanced PXI MultiComputing Remote Control Module from National Instruments. The NI PXIe-8383MC is an adaptor module, which allows exchanging data between two or more intelligent systems. Data is transferred over the PCI Express bus through a non-transparent bridge (NTB). PCI Express has superior data transfer characteristics. The PXIe-8383MC limits the latency down to a few microseconds.
The NI PXIe-8383MC is the industry’s first PXI MultiComputing Module. This module uses an x8 PCI Express 2.0 link to provide up to 2.7 GB/s of data throughput with 5 µs one-way latency. The PXIe-8383MC supports copper or fiber connectivity up to 100m. This module can connect two PXI Express chassis. Each chassis requires its own system controller. The NI PXIe-8383MC can also connect a PXI Express chassis with a system controller to an external PC. The PXIe-8383MC can interface to either a PXIe-8384 module or a PCIe-8381 board.
The flexible interface offers numerous system configurations, including line, tree, and ring configurations. The tree configuration offers an ideal balance of performance, scalability, and usability. The NI PXIe-8383MC module requires the NI-PXImc driver. The NI-PXImc driver is supported for Windows 7 and LabVIEW Real-Time OS. This driver presents a simple and efficient API for data transfer. It needs to abstract the low-level details of the PXImc interface.
The PXIe-8383MC module is well suited for a broad range of applications, such as real-time tests, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) tests, and structural tests. These tests need a large number of distributed PXI systems to share data with low latency.
