National Instruments NI ELVIS II Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite

The National Instruments NI ELVIS II (Part Numbers: 780381-01, 780379-01, 780378-01, 780380-01, and 188432-01) is an educational laboratory device developed explicitly for academia. With this device, trainers and educators can provide students with hands-on experimental skills in a real-time environment. This compact model includes 12 instruments generally used in the laboratory, including: a digital multimeter, variable power supply, function generator, Bode analyzer, oscilloscope, digital writer, digital reader, impedance analyzer, dynamic signal analyzer, arbitrary waveform generator, 2-wire current voltage analyzer, and 3-wire current voltage analyzer. The device has 8 differential or 16 single-ended analog input channels with a maximum sample rate of 1.25 MS/s for a single channel, or 1 MS/s for multi-channel.

The National Instruments NI ELVIS II comes with USB plug-and-play capabilities. Thus, the integrated instruments on this device can be connected through a standard PC. Moreover, this device has a detachable protoboard that can be used to build circuits by students. This educational device comes featured with easy to use, comprehensive control mechanisms since it is intended to be used by students and novice users. For voltage adjustment of positive and negative variable power supplies, dedicated knobs are provided. Similarly, for the function generator, two separate knobs are provided for frequency and amplitude control. There is also an active control regime, which can be observed in other areas.

With this educational tool, students can prototype their circuits and conduct functionality tests. The prototyping board offers access to +5 V and ±15 V power supply. The user can utilize these voltage rails to design various common circuits.  The detachable prototyping board can be replaced with a similar board for multiple prototyping. The NI ELVIS 2 provides two analog output channels. These channels can be used for arbitrary waveform generation. The DC power supplies incorporated in this model supply a fixed output of +5 V, +15 V, and -15 V. The NI device weighs 4.2 lb, and measures 14.5 x 11.0 x 3.0 in. in physical dimensions.

NI ELVIS II Obsolete Status has been declared by National Instruments, but the model will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
