National Instruments 779647-10 PXI Programmable Power Supply

The National Instruments 779647-10 is a triple-output precision DC power supply that is a crucial part of the PXI-4110 Model series. It is contained in a 3U PXI module with a single slot and is meant to be versatile. This programmable power supply has one nonisolated channel with a voltage range of 0 to 6 V and two isolated channels that can produce voltages between 0 and ±20 V. Up to 1 A of current can be supplied by each channel.

The 779647-10's 16-bit resolution makes it possible to precisely program voltage setpoints and current restrictions, guaranteeing precision in measurements of voltage and current readback. Because of its level of precision, it can be used in a variety of design validation and manufacturing test scenarios.

Users can leverage the flexibility of this power supply to combine channels, enabling higher voltage or current outputs as needed. Programming options include voltage increments as fine as 120 μV on the 6 V channel and 400 μV on each of the 20 V channels. For current sourcing, the 779647-10 offers granularity down to 20 μA per channel within the 1 A range, and 400 nA resolution in the 20 mA current range.

The PXI backplane can supply power internally, or external power can be supplied using the NI APS-4100 auxiliary DC supply. Internal power limits output power because of PXI power constraints, but it decreases front-panel connections. On the other hand, external power allows all channels to operate at full 1 A capacity, maximizing the total output power to 46 W.

The 779647-10 PXI module provides superior output power and precision by combining switching and linear control approaches. In order to maximize power transfer efficiency, an intelligent PID algorithm controls the preregulation phase.

Features including reverse-polarity voltage protection, overvoltage protection, and output fuses are built into the 779647-10 to protect the supply as well as the load. The module immediately shuts down for safety in the event of abnormal input voltage.

Complete programmatic control is facilitated through the NI-DCPower instrument driver, offering seamless integration with LabVIEW for intuitive configuration and programming. A test panel also helps with debugging and troubleshooting power supply operations.
