National Instruments PC-DIO-96 Digital I/O Board

The PC-DIO-96 is a digital, parallel, 96-bit Digital I/O Board for the ISA bus. The NI PC-DIO-96 is available under part number 777271-01 and manufactured by National Instruments. Controlling this 96-bit Digital I/O Board is accomplished by four 8255 PPIs (Programmable Peripheral Interface) chips. The 8255 PPI is basically a general purpose I/O device in which interfacing can be accomplished by programing. The PC-DIO-96 is a software timed device with 5 V TTL/CMOS logic levels.

This Digital I/O Board has handshaking I/O capabilities, an 8255 Chipset, and pattern matching. This board does not have change notification capability. One advantage of this board is that it is compatible with every microprocessor by programming. The different applications can be controlled by the National Instruments PC-DIO-96 using 8255 PPI, since it can be operated in bi-directional as well as uni-directional mode. The standard male 100-pin connector is used for digital I/O communication. The 8253 timer or counter is used with the this Digital I/O Board for sending periodic interruptions to the host. 

The NI PC-DIO-96 has a plug-and-play version with almost identical features, PC-DIO-96/PNP. The PC-DIO-96 can transfer data up to a maximum rate of 780 Kbytes/s and work under relative humidity in a 5 to 90 % environment. The maximum voltage rating for this Digital I/O Board is -0.5 to +5.5 V with respect to ground. The output signal is taken from pin number 49 and 99 at maximum voltage of +5 V with 0.5 A current maximum at each pin.
