National Instruments PCI-7350 Motion Controller Device
The National Instruments PCI 7350 (Part Numbers: 778440-02, 778440-04, 778440-06, and 778440-08) is a Motion Controller for servo and stepper applications. This model can provide fully user-programmable motion control for two, four, six, or eight independent axes of motion. Multi-dimensional coordinated spaces are utilized for coordinated motion. Each axis comes with dedicated motion I/O from home and limit switches. This model is capable of handling complex and arbitrary motion trajectories since it utilizes contouring and circular interpolation. The NI PCI 7350 can control brushless or brushed DC servo motors, piezo motor systems, and many other servo devices. The device has trajectory update rate ranges of 62.5 µs/sample to 5 ms/sample (Servo) and 62.5 to 500 µs/sample (Stepper), while it has 2 axes per 62.5 µs PID Rate.
To provide embedded, real-time control, this Motion Controller comes with a state-of-the-art dual-processor. This device has two 68-pin motion I/O connectors and two 68-pin digital I/O connectors. The motion I/O connectors on the PCI 7350 contain all the necessary signals required for closed-loop motion control of up to eight axes. The digital I/O connectors contain 64 bits of digital I/O and 12 inputs for four Hall effect sensors. Motion I/O Connector 0 deals with Axes 1-4 and the Motion I/O connector 1 provides access to Axes 5-8. The device has a maximum step frequency of 8 MHz (full, half, and microstep). It is equipped with 24 inputs (3 per axis), 8 outputs (1 per axis), 8 digital I/O ports (8-bit), and 2 PWM outputs (50 kHz, 8-bit). Additionally, the controller has a power consumption value of 18 W.
This Motion Controller utilizes the DSP (digital signal processor) for all closed-loop control, including motion trajectory generation and position tracking. The custom FPGA incorporated in this model supports the DSP chip and performs breakpoint functions, position capture, encoder interfacing, stepper pulse generation, and motion I/O processing. Thus, the PCI 7350 NI is a true multitasking and multiprocessing embedded controller and its infrastructure offers advanced motion features, such as PID functions.
The NI device weighs 0.25 lb, and measures 6.9 x 3.9 in. in physical dimensions.
