National Instruments PCI-6601 Counter/Timer Device
The PCI‑6601 (Part Number: 777918-01) performs encoder position estimations, event checking, period estimations, pulse width estimations, pulse generation, pulse prepare generation, and frequency estimation. The PCI‑6601 can perform one rapid DMA exchange. The NI PCI-6601 is a timing and computerized I/O gadget for use with the PCI bus in PC compatible PCs, PXI frame, or CompactPCI body. The National Instruments NI PCI 6601 offers 32 bidirectional digital channels and up to 32 lines of exclusively configurable, TTL/CMOS-compatible advanced I/O.
This model comes with a pre-scaling function that enables the counter to check a signal that is speedier than the most extreme time-base of the counter. The counters on the PCI 6601 National Instruments device offer 8X and 2X pre-scaling on each counter (pre-scaling can be handicapped).
Each pre-scaler is comprised of a little, basic counter that tallies to eight (or two) and moves over. This counter is particularly intended for this application and can tally flags that are speedier than the universally useful counters. The CtrnSource motion on the broadly useful counter will be the separated flag from the straightforward counter. Pre-scaling is expected for use with two counter period and frequency estimations where the estimation is made on a ceaseless, tedious signal. The pre-scaling counter cannot be perused, so the user cannot decide what number of edges have happened since the past move over. The user can utilize pre-scaling for tallying edges if it is adequate to have a mistake of up to seven when utilizing 8X pre-scaling or one when utilizing 2X pre-scaling. The PCI 6601 is equipped with a 68-pin male SCSI-II type I/O connector.
The Counter/Timer device can be calibrated using the traditional NI-DAQ 7.4.4 which is compatible with software packages or application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Microsoft Visual C++, Microsoft Visual Basic, and Borland C++.
The NI device measures 6.9 x 3.9 in. in physical dimensions. It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of 0 °C to 55 °C and 20 °C to 70 °C.
PCI-6601 Mature Status has been announced by National Instruments, but will be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.

National Instruments PCI-6601 Frequently Asked Questions
Question: I am using the National Instruments NI PCI-6601 to measure the pulse width with eight counter input channels. Using multiple channels causes Error -200251. How do I resolve the issue?
Answer: The National Instruments NI PCI-6601 has a specified number of DMA routes for use. If you try to use more channels than the card has DMA routes for, then this error will appear. The PCI-6601 only has 1 DMA channel. The easiest way to change this is to change the transfer method. First, locate the DAQmx Channel Property Node on the DAQmx palette. Right click in the block diagram and go to Measurement I/O » DAQmx » DAQmx Channel Property Node. Place this node on the block diagram and connect the task input to the counter task you would like to configure. To locate the Data Transfer Mechanism Property, click on Property and select Counter Input » General Properties » More » Advanced » Data Transfer and Memory » Data Transfer Mechanism. Set this property to write and create a constant for the input. You can now select any of the various methods for the transfer method (DMA, Interrupts, Programmed I/O, USB bulk).
Question: Which items are required to use the PCI 6601?
Answer: To use the PCI 6601, you need NI-DAQ for PC compatibles, LabWindows/CVI, or LabVIEW for Windows, as well as a computer or a CompactPCI or PXI chassis and controller, a shielded (SH68-68-D1) or ribbon (R6868) cable, and a SCB-68, TBX-68, or CB-68LP connector block.
Question: Which special features are included on the PCI 6601 National Instruments?
Answer: The PCI 6601 National Instruments has pulse generation, debouncing/glitch removal, and buffered operations.
Question: Which driver software supports the NI PCI 6601?
Answer: The NI PCI 6601 driver software supported is NI-DAQ 7.
