National Instruments 779658-01 Arbitrary Function/Waveform Generator
Part Number 779658-01 is the identifying part number for the National Instruments PCI-5406 Arbitrary Function/Waveform Generator. The 779658-01 comes with a single analog output channel CH 0 that can output full-scale voltages from 5.64 mVpk-pk to 10.00 Vpk-pk into a 50 Ω load. The resolution of the DAC is 16 bits and the channel uses a BNC connector. The 779658-01 can generate multiple functions with different maximum frequencies and sample rates. For example, it can generate sine, square, and user-defined functions with maximum frequencies of 40 MHz, 25 MHz, and 40 MHz respectively, and a maximum sample rate of 400 MS/s. Likewise, ramp and triangle functions are generated with a maximum frequency of 5 MHz and a maximum sample rate of 100 MS/s.
The 779658-01 offers multiple options on sample clock sources. First, there is an onboard VCXO clock with a frequency of 100 MHz. The sample clock can be exported to SYNC OUT/ PFI 0, and PFI 1 channels and use BNC connectors. Likewise, it can also be exported to RTSI <0..6> channels. The maximum frequency at SYNC OUT/PFI 0, and PFI channels is 100 MHz while it is only 20 MHz in RTSI<0..6> channels. The 779658-01 measures 13.4 × 0.8 × 4.2 in. in physical dimensions and weighs 420 g. It draws 1.4 A, 0.11 A, and 0.01 A of current at +3.3 VDC, +12 VDC, and -12 VDC respectively. The current drawn at +5 VDC depends on the frequency and the amplitude of the generated function. The device consumes a total power of 17.6 W. Lastly, the device uses the NI-FGEN driver software for configuration, control, and calibration.
The 779658-01 is recommended for operation between temperatures of 0 °C to 45 °C with a relative humidity of 10% to 90%. On the other hand, it can be stored between a wider temperature range of –25 °C to 85 °C at a relative humidity of 5% to 95%. The device is intended for indoor use only and within a maximum altitude of 2000 m.
