The PCI-5402 (Part number: 779656-01) is a Waveform Generator Device by National Instruments. In addition to standard signals, this device can also generate other signals, such as pseudorandom noise and DC signals. The PCI-5402 Waveform Generator Device generates signals with an amplitude range of up to ±5 V into high impedance or ±2.5 V into 50 Ω loads. The PCI-5402 features the direct digital synthesis (DDS) method for signal generation and is used in applications where fast analog signal generation is required.
The PCI-5402 Waveform Generator Device has one analog output channel. The connector type of the output channel is BNC and the analog output resolution is 14 bits. The channels are selectable as a trigger (input) or event (output). These channels can bear overload of -2 V to +7 V voltage without any damage to the generator device. The device has an amplitude resolution of 14 bits, which corresponds to approximately 0.006% of the full-scale range. The PCI-5402 has a selectable output impedance of 50 Ω or 75 Ω. The output channel is also selectable and can be disabled. In addition, the device has a selectable FIR filter, which can only be used if the sample clock rate is above 10 MS/s. The frequency resolution of this generator is 0.014 Hz. The PCI-5402 features a maximum update rate of 40 MS/s and an analog output bandwidth of approximately 13 MHz for sine waves; for complex waveforms like ramps and triangles, the bandwidth is typically around 1 MHz.. However, for ramp and triangle signals, the values reduce to 1 MHz and 100 MS/s.
The PCI-5402 Waveform Generator Device supports NI-FGEN driver software. NI-FGEN is used to configure and calibrate the PCI-5402. It is supported by various applications for the programming interface. MAX is also included in the NI-FGEN.
PCI-5402 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
