The National Instruments 784096-01 or PXIe-5698 is a versatile RF preamplifier module designed for integration into PXI Express systems. Primarily developed to enhance the functionality of the PXIe-5668 vector signal analyzer, it also serves as a stand alone preamplifier. The module occupies a single slot in a PXI Express chassis that makes it a space efficient addition to test setups that require high performance signal amplification. The 784096-01 offers minimal gain across a broad frequency range. 

The module provides a minimum gain of 23 dB at frequencies between 10 MHz to 200 MHz with increasing gain levels reaching up to 32 dB for frequencies between 200 MHz to 2 GHz when the preamplifier is enabled. This feature ensures that weak RF signals are amplified effectively. When the preamplifier is disabled, the module introduces minimal insertion loss with gains ranging from -0.8 dB to -2.6 dB depending on the frequency. This allows signals to pass through with negligible attenuation.The National Instruments 784096-01 also excels in maintaining a low noise figure that is crucial for accurate RF measurements. For instance, the noise figure at frequencies up to 200 MHz is ≤3.1 dB and it remains well-controlled across higher frequencies. The module's design minimizes the introduction of additional noise which is particularly beneficial in scenarios where low level signals need to be accurately measured without significant distortion or loss.

The module includes an RF signal bypass path controlled by a mechanical relay that allows users to remove the preamplifier from the signal chain without physically disconnecting the system.
