National Instruments PXIe-5603 RF Signal Downconverter Module
The National Instruments PXIe-5603 (Part Numbers: 781429-01, 781429-02) is an RF Signal Downconverter designed to convert the RF frequency to a lower level so the digitization process can be performed. The two part numbers of the PXIe-5603 represent the two versions of the module: part number 781429-01 is the standard version, while part number 781429-02 features a pre-amp option. Equipped with an SMA female front panel connector, this versatile downconverter supports both AC and DC coupling. It can safely be operated under DC input voltages up to ±25 VDC.
This PXIe-5603 is an integral part of the 3.6 GHz PXIe-5665 Vector Signal Analyzer, which is made up of the PXIe-5603 RF Signal Downconverter, the PXIe-5653 Analog Signal Generator, and the PXIe-5622 IF Digitizer. The PXIe-5653 generates analog signals, the frequencies of which are lowered by the PXIe-5603. These low frequency signals are then digitized by the PXIe-5622. The PXIe-5665 hardware can be configured using the Measurement & Automation Explorer tool (MAX).
If current signals with high transients pass through the input connector of the NI PXIe-5603, it can harm the downconverter permanently. On the other hand, the maximum level of the IF output is +22 dBm, and the power required by the device is 1.7 A at +3.3 VDC and 1.8 A at +12 VDC. The maximum safe voltage of the LO IN is 25 VDC, while the maximum safe voltage of the LO OUT is 0 VDC.
Physically, the PXIe-5603 weighs 32.0 oz, and measures dimensions of 8.5 x 1.6 x 5.1 in. The environmental specifications for the downconverter include a recommended operating temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C and a storage temperature range of -41 °C to 71 °C when not in use. The amplitude range defined for the PXIe-5603 is completely identical to the range for the PXIe-5665, which is 0 dB to 30 dB in 10 dB steps for mechanical and 0 dB to 40 dB in 1 dB steps for electronic.
The PXIe-5603 has been declared Obsolete by National Instruments, but the RF Signal Downconverter will still be available for both purchase and repairs in perpetuity with Apex Waves.
