National Instruments PXI-8462 PXI CAN Interface Module
The National Instruments PXI-8462 is a Double CAN Interface Module that makes the PXI or Compact PCI chassis communicate with and control CAN gadgets. This interface is programming configurable and consistent with the PXI Specification and CompactPCI Specifications. The PXI-8462 is a double speed board with port one arranged as a rapid port (ISO 11898) and port two designed as a low-speed port (ISO 11519-2). The CAN physical layer on this module can be fueled either inside (from the board) or remotely (from the bus link power).
The NI PXI-8462 board is accessible with DB-9 D-Sub connectors. This board utilizes the RTSI bus to take care of the issue of synchronizing a few capacities over various sheets to a typical trigger or timing event. The PXI-8462 uses an Intel 386EX embedded processor to actualize time-basic highlights by the NI-CAN programming. It additionally communicates with the NI-CAN driver through on-board shared memory and an interrupt.
Dissimilar to fast CAN, low-speed CAN requires termination at the low-speed CAN transceiver rather than on the cable. The termination requires one resistor for each CAN line. This setup permits the Philips fault-tolerant CAN transceiver to recognize any of seven system faults. The PXI-8462 can be used to associate with a low-speed CAN arrangement with two to 32 nodes as specified by Philips (counting the port on the PXI-8462 as a node). For the PXI-8462, a jumper controls the source of energy for the CAN physical layer. For the one-port sheets and port one of the two-port sheets, control is designed with jumper J5. For port two of the two-port sheets, control is arranged with jumper J6.
PXI-8462 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the interface will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
