Featured with an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 processor (2.53 GHz dual core), 6 MB shared L2 Cache, 1 Dual-channel 800 MHz DDR2 RAM, and 80 GB SATA (5400 rpm) Hard Drive, the National Instruments NI PXI-8108 (Part Numbers: 780446-04, 780447-04, 780446-02, 780447-02, 780446-01, 780447-01) is a microprocessor-based Embedded Controller. The PXI-8108 Controller is offered with a pre-loaded operating system and is fully compatible with Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP. While Windows 10 can be successfully installed on the controller, the peripheral drivers may not achieve optimal functionality. For a solid video performance, this model comes with a Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset with an integrated graphics processing unit or GPU. Thus, the NI PXI-8108 can deliver realistic and intense 3D graphics with sharp images, smooth motion, fast rendering, and high detail. These hardware resources eliminate the requirement of a separate graphics card or other peripherals.
For connecting an external monitor, the NI PXI-8108 Embedded Controller comes equipped with a DVI-I video connector. This video connector supports both the VGA and Digital monitors. However, a VGA connector can only be connected with the help of a special DVI-I to VGA adaptor. Another great feature of this Embedded Controller is its tendency to support dual monitors since it can support simultaneous VGA and DVI output. With this feature, the user will be able to connect and operate an analog and a digital monitor or 2 x VGA monitors to their PXI system by using a VGA (female) and A DVI-I (male) to DVI-D (female) splitter.
The PXI-8108 can be used with several software tools such as LabVIEW, Measurement Studio, Lab Windows/CXI, Microsoft’s Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual Studio .NET along with the NI-DAQmx driver. The device has various I/O interfaces with their corresponding external connectors. They are: Video I/O interface with a DVI-I (24-pin DSUB) connector, a Serial interface with a COM 1 (9-pin DSUB) connector, an Ethernet interface with a LAN (RJ45) connector, a Parallel interface with a parallel port (36-pin champ) connector, a USB (4 ports) interface with a USB 4-pin Series A stacked receptacle, a PXI trigger interface with a trigger (SMB) connector, a GPIB Controller interface with a GPIB (25-pin Micro D) connector, a ExpressCard/34 module interface with an ExpressCard/34 slot connector.
This Controller utilizes dual-channel 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, which makes it an ideal solution for data-intensive applications with the requirement of significant analysis. Users with more challenging applications can always consider upgrading to 4 GB RAM, which is offered in 1 x 4 GB DIMM configuration.
