National Instruments PXI-8174 PXI Controller

The National Instruments PXI-8174 is a Windows-based, Pentium PXI/cPCI compatible system Controller. This Controller, along with a PXI-compatible chassis like the PXI-1000B, results in a comprehensive, PC-compatible computer packaged in a rugged, compact package. Power by a 566 MHz processor, the NI PXI 8174 comes equipped with all the standard I/O including: a 15-pin DSUB (standard VGA), a COM1 RS-232 Serial Port (9-pin DSUB), a 10/100 Ethernet Port, a Parallel Port (IEEE 1284), two 4-pin Series A receptacle USB Ports, and a PS/2 port.

This Controller features a front panel TRG connector, which is a software-controller trigger connection that can be used for the routing of PXI triggers to or from the backplane trigger bus. For data storage, the NI PXI-8174 supports various options, such as USB storage, an Internal IDE hard drive, and a 1.44 MB floppy disk. This system controller tends to boot from multiple devices since the user can boot it from the internal IDE hard drive, the internal 1.44 MB floppy drive, the internal IDE CD-ROM an external USB floppy drive, an external USB mass storage device, and an external SCSI hard drive. In addition, the PXI-8174 allows the user to set a boot order by device type.

When used with the PXI-1020 or PXI-1025 chassis, the National Instruments PXI-8174 allows the enabling/disabling of the LCD display. This Controller requires 1 system slot and 3 controller expansion slots for its deployment. It is a PXI 3U-size module with 6.1 x 13 x 21.6 cm physical dimensions.

PXI-8174 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the Controller will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
