National Instruments 784798-01 PXI MIL-STD-1553 Interface Module

Part Number 784798-01 is the identifying part number for the National Instruments LV-222-511-511 PXI MIL-STD-1553 Interface Module. MIL-STD-1553 is a digital, command-response, time-division multiplexing data bus protocol utilized in military aircraft and other commercial and military applications. This protocol also maintains bus activity logs in a sequential record file that can be analyzed by the user later.

The 784798-01 is a single-function, four channel interface module that provides a Bus Controller, Remote Terminal and Bus Monitor operation, and user-configurable RT response time. The user-configurable RT response time allows the user to measure the response from the mid-bit zero crossing of the parity bit to the mid-bit zero crossing of the status word sync. This can be set with the help of software and the value is an integer representing the response time in hundreds of ns up to 819  μs. Note that when error checking is used, the minimum response time can get affected by 3.7 μs for MIL-STD-1553A and 7.7 μs for MIL-STD-1553B. The default value for all the modules is 9 μs. Likewise, the monitoring feature provides filtering for terminal addresses, subaddresses, and concurrent monitoring.

The 784798-01 is a 3U size module that comes with 16 TTL-compatible discrete I/O. Likewise, it features software that helps users install and configure the module. Similarly, it supports application development environments (ADEs) like the NI LabVIEW. Note that the module does not need external power supply since it takes power from the host. Also, the modular structure of the module allows addition, removal, and interchanging of the modules easier.

Besides the 784798-01, some of the modules in this family provide advanced functionalities like multi-terminal simulation (up to 32) with concurrent monitoring and protocol error injection (word, gap, and message errors). Likewise, they also provide variable transmit amplitude and zero-crossing distortion.
