National Instruments 778572-14 Signal Insertion Switch Module.

The National Instruments 778572-14 is a signal insertion switch module/fault insertion unit (FIU). It is also known as the PXI-2514 module and is ideal for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) applications and electronic reliability testing. This module features a switch bandwidth of 800 kHz and 7 x channels with two fault bus lines. It is designed to simulate faults in control systems, such as open connections, shorts between pins, shorts to battery voltages, and shorts to ground. Each FIU module contains feedthrough channels that can be opened or shorted to one or more fault buses.

The NI 778572-14 is well-suited for validating engine control units (ECUs) and full authority digital engine controls (FADECs) when controlled with the LabVIEW Real-Time Module. This unit is rated for Measurement Category I which means it can handle signal voltages up to 19.8 Vrms or 28 VDC along with a maximum continuous current of 40 A per channel. The maximum switching power per channel is 1,120 W.

The relay characteristics of this module include an operating time of 8 µs (typical) and a maximum of 35 µs. The module uses FET relays and offers unlimited relay life under specified limits. The 778572-14 supports input and output triggers via PXI trigger lines. The pulse widths range between 1 µs to 62 µs, and the minimum input trigger pulse width of this 778572-14 unit is 150 ns.

The NI 778572-14 occupies two slots in a PXI/cPCI chassis and is compatible with PXI Express. It measures 21.6 cm x 4.1 cm x 13.0 cm and weighs 513 g. The module operates within a temperature range of 0 °C to 50 °C. It supports a relative humidity of 5% to 85%, and a maximum altitude of 2,000 meters above sea level.

This signal insertion switch module complies with essential European Directives that include Low-Voltage Directive, Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive, RoHS, Radio Equipment Directive, and ATEX. Safety compliance standards include IEC 61010-1 and UL 61010-1. EMC compliance is also assured in this 778572-14 unit with EN 61326-1 and FCC 47 CFR Part 15B standards.
