National Instruments 780587-15 High-Speed Digital Insertion Module
The National Instruments 780587-15 (or PXIe-2515) is a 32-channel high-speed digital insertion module. By directing high-speed digital I/O (DIO) signals between a device under test (DUT) and either a parametric measurement device or an NI high-speed DIO device, this multiplexer switch module makes communication easier. The 780587-15 unit is compatible with PXI Source Measure Units (SMUs) and PXI Digital Multimeters (DMMs) that eliminates the need for external connectivity.
The 780587-15 module’s input characteristics accommodate both DC and AC signals. It supports a maximum switching voltage of 30V CAT I channel-to-ground along with a maximum switching power per channel of 3W and a maximum switching current of 0.25A. The channel-to-channel skew is less than 130 ps. The initial DC path resistance is under 2 ohms for CH x - DUT x connections that increases to 3 ohms by end-of-life. On the other hand, the analog bus shows an initial resistance of less than 5 ohms that rises to 6 ohms over time.
Dynamic performance of the NI 780587-15 features include a maximum simultaneous drive limit of 48 relays along with a nominal relay operate time of 0.25 ms and a release time of 0.05 ms. The Rhodium relays of the unit are designed for high endurance that offers a nominal expected life of 1 billion cycles at 1V, 10mA, and 100 million cycles at 5V, 10mA. The module supports input and output triggers via PXI trigger lines and its software-selectable output pulse widths ranging from 1 µs to 62 µs.
The NI 780587-15 unit is a compact 3U, one-slot module. It is compatible with both PXI and PXI Express systems. It measures 21.6 cm x 2.0 cm x 13.0 cm and weighs 248 grams. The relay type is Reed, and the module includes two BNC female and two VHDCI female I/O connectors. Power requirements of the 780587-15 module are 9.1W at 5V and 0.45W at 3.3V for PXI, and 8.4W at 12V and 0.8W at 3.3V for PXI Express.
This digital insertion module operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 55°C and can be stored between -40°C and 70°C. It supports a relative humidity of 5% to 85% and is rated for a maximum altitude of 2,000 meters. The module is compliant with various safety and EMC standards that include IEC 61010-1, EN 61010-1, UL 61010-1, CSA C22.2 No. 61010-1, and others.
