National Instruments PXI-7841 Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module

The PXI-7841 (Part Number: 780337-01) is a Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module developed by National Instruments. This device is equipped with a Virtex-5 LX30 FPGA, which enhances the system’s performance and flexibility. The PXI-7841 provides 8 analog input channels and 8 analog output channels, each with 16-bit resolution. The maximum sampling rate for analog inputs is 200 kS/s per channel, while the analog outputs can update at 1 MS/s per channel.

The device supports three software-selectable input modes: Differential (DIFF), Referenced Single-Ended (RSE), and Non-Referenced Single-Ended (NRSE). The input impedance is 10 GΩ in parallel with 100 pF when powered on. The PXI-7841 has a conversion time of 4 μs and operates with DC coupling. The maximum working voltage is ±10 V, and inputs should remain within ±12 V of ground.

The bandwidth of the PXI-7841 is 1 MHz for small signals and 500 kHz for large signals. The module includes 96 digital I/O lines and three 68-pin female VHDCI connectors for high-density interfacing. It also features a maximum channel-to-channel working voltage of ±24 V, adhering to Measurement Category I safety standards.

The PXI-7841 meets EMC standards for laboratory use, control, and measurement applications. Additionally, this module is designed for indoor use only and can be easily cleaned with a soft, non-metallic brush. The PXI-7841 has reached Mature Status, as announced by National Instruments, but it remains available for purchase and repair services through Apex Waves.

National Instruments PXI-7841 Frequently Asked Questions

Question: How can you customize the PXI-7841?

Answer: To customize the PXI-7841, you need the LabVIEW FPGA Module.

Question: Does the PXI 7841 have a dedicated A/D converter?

Answer: The PXI-7841 does not have a dedicated A/D converter per channel. Instead, it uses a shared 16-bit Successive Approximation (SAR) ADC with a maximum sampling rate of 200 kS/s per channel.

Question: Is the NI PXI-7841 capable of multi-rate sampling?

Answer: The NI PXI-7841 does not support true multi-rate sampling. All analog input channels share a common sampling clock and cannot operate at different sample rates.
