National Instruments PXI-7842 PXI Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module

The PXI-7842 (Part number: 780338-01) is a PXI Multifunction Reconfigurable I/O Module from National Instruments. This device features data acquisition with onboard processing and an onboard FPGA. The onboard FPGA is a Virtex-5 LX50 with 28,800 flip-flops, 48 DSP48 slices (multipliers), and 1,728 kbits of embedded block RAM. This device allows full user-programmable control of trigger and timer channels and can stream data at high speeds via DMA channels. The PXI-7842 is commonly used in digital communication protocols and applications requiring custom control logic.

The PXI-7842 has eight AI channels, which support Differential (DIFF), Referenced Single-Ended (RSE), and Non-Referenced Single-Ended (NRSE) input modes. The AI channels have an input impedance of 10 GΩ (powered on) or 4.0 kΩ (powered off), with ±42 V (powered on) and ±35 V (powered off) overvoltage protection. The ADC type is Successive Approximation (SAR) with a resolution of 16 bits and a maximum sampling rate of 200 kS/s.

The PXI-7842 also includes 8 single-ended AO channels that are DC-coupled with a ±10 V range and an output impedance of 0.5 Ω. The maximum AO update rate is 1 MS/s. Additionally, the module incorporates 96 DIO channels, supporting 3.3 V and 5 V TTL logic with an input protection range of –20 V to +20 V. This module includes three 68-pin Female High-Density VHDCI connectors, is compatible with the NI-RIO driver, and supports Windows XP/2000 and LabVIEW RT. The timebase options include 40, 80, 120, 160, or 200 MHz, with an ability to phase-lock to the PXI 10 MHz reference clock for synchronization.

PXI-7842 Mature Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the module will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
