National Instruments 783153-01 Software Defined Radio Device
The National Instruments 783153-01, or USRP-2954R is a software-defined radio (SDR) device that enables rapid prototyping of high performance wireless communication systems. This SDR device integrates seamlessly with both hardware and software leveraging the LabVIEW reconfigurable I/O (RIO) architecture. It is an essential tool for researchers aiming to develop complex wireless communication applications. The device supports a wide range of advanced applications such as multiple input, multiple output (MIMO), spectrum sensing, LTE relaying, cognitive radio, beamforming, direction finding, and RF compressive sampling.
The transmitter section of the 783153-01 features two channels that operate within a frequency range of 10 MHz to 6 GHz. The device offers frequency steps of less than 1 kHz. It provides a maximum output power between 50 mW to 100 mW for frequencies up to 4 GHz and between 5 mW to 50 mW for frequencies between 4 GHz and 6 GHz. The gain range of the transmitter extends from 0 dB to 31.5 dB with adjustable gain steps in increments of 0.5 dB. The maximum instantaneous real-time bandwidth is 160 MHz while the maximum I/Q sample rate is 200 MS/s. The digital-to-analog converter (DAC) operates at 16-bit resolution.
The NI 783153-01 device also has two channels On the receiver side that cover the same frequency range from 10 MHz to 6 GHz. The frequency step remains under 1 kHz for precise frequency tuning. The receiver gain range is 0 dB to 37.5 dB with 0.5 dB steps. The maximum input power is -15 dBm and the device achieves a low noise figure of 5 dB to 7 dB. Like the transmitter, the receiver also offers a maximum real-time bandwidth of 160 MHz and a maximum I/Q sample rate of 200 MS/s. This is supported by a 14-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for high-resolution signal reception.
The 783153-01 has a GPS-disciplined oscillator (GPSDO) which enhances frequency accuracy and synchronization capabilities. The 10 MHz oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) provides a frequency accuracy of 25 parts per billion (ppb) when not locked to GPS and improves to 5 ppb when locked. The active antenna offers a 5V voltage and consumes 0.7 W of power. The model is designed with a compact form factor measuring 26.67 cm x 4.06 cm x 21.84 cm and weighs approximately 1.588 kg.
