Based on the PCI bus, the National Instruments PXI-8145RT (Part Number: 778201-01) is a 3U Real-Time Embedded Controller. Featured with complete PXI functionality through interactive utilities, this model is a simple to utilize, high-performance platform for controlling PCI systems. The device requires 1 system slot and 1 controller expansion slot to operate. This PXI Real-Time Embedded Controller is a custom computer that can be installed in the system controller slot of the user’s PXI mainframe. The NI PXI-8145RT is well-suited for affordable, real-time applications where minimal space is available.
The National Instruments PXI 8145RT features one RS-232 serial port, one 10/100BaseT Ethernet port, and a Pentium 266 MHz processor which can run one PID loop at 6 kHz maximum. The PXI-8145RT can ensure high shock and vibration since it utilizes nonvolatile CompactFlash memory. The CompactFlash memory size is 32 MB. This PXI Controller has a user-programmable timer/counter or watchdog with an ability to countdown from a value specified by the user. Users can reset the watchdog controller through a backplane trigger line. To provide maximum safety, the watchdog counter is programmed to initiate a controller reset when it reaches zero because of a software crash. When used in the system slot, the NI PXI 8145RT provides all slots in the PXI system with master/slave capabilities.
This controller is run using the NI-DAQ driver software, and is compatible with several types of software such as NI-VISA. However the required software is the LabVIEW Real-Time Module and the LabVIEW Professional or Full Development System.
