The PXI-8211 (Part Number: 778228-01) is an Ethernet Interface by National Instruments designed for PXI/CompactPCI systems. This Ethernet Interface is compatible with two network types: 10BaseT and 100BaseTX. The PXI 8211 has Intel 82559 Fast Ethernet Controller performance, making it ideal for many types of challenging desktop applications. The NI PXI-8211 comes equipped with RJ-45 connectors with different colored LEDs designated for speed and activity/link. The speed LEDs are green, while the activity/link LEDs are yellow. In addition, this model has full duplex compatibility at rates of 10 and 100 Mbits per second.
The NI PXI 8211 Ethernet Interface measures 6.3 x 3.9 in. (16.0 x 9.9 cm) in physical dimensions, has PCI INTB interrupts, and has power requirements of 1.7 W at +3.3 VDC. The National Instruments PXI-8211 Ethernet Interface can be used in an RT Series PXI System to bring swift Ethernet to the system. However, if the user is utilizing PXI controllers or desktop PCs with embedded Ethernet ports, then no further hardware is required.
The NI PXI-8211 can be used with controllers that do not have built-in ports, including the PXI-8170. For this purpose, other instruments that are required for operation include: an external Ethernet hub or common LAN, a SMB-210 cable, a 1-meter SMB-200 cable, and two Ethernet cables. Additionally, a 1 kHz function generator can also be used for assessing phase mismatch between chassis, although it is not required. The user should always double check the installation and ensure that any doors/covers to the chassis are not open.
The PXI-8211 can be run with Windows Me/98, Windows 2000/XP, Windows NT 4.0, all of which have their drivers which must be installed using the PCI/PXI Ethernet Adapters CD. The PCI/PXI Ethernet Adapters installation guide contains instructions which will help in the installation of your driver.
It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of 0 to 55 °C and –20 to 70 °C respectively, non-condensing operating and storage humidity ranges of 10% to 90% RH and 5 to 90% RH respectively.
PXI-8211 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the interface will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
