National Instruments 781420-10 Matrix Switch Card
The National Instruments 781420-10 is a high density matrix switch card designed specifically for use with the NI SwitchBlock. It is also known as the NI 2810A. This modular matrix switch card offers versatility and flexibility by allowing integration with other NI 2810 cards. This enables the creation of a fully customized NI SwitchBlock multicard device for complex signal routing tasks. The maximum switching voltage of the 781420-10 is 150 V with row/column-to-ground isolation up to 150 V. It also has a maximum switching current of 1.0 A per channel with a similar carry current rating.
Each channel can switch a maximum power of 20 W. This makes it effective for moderate power applications with excellent thermal management to prevent overloads during continuous operations. The matrix switch card has a low DC path resistance which starts at less than 1 Ω. As the relay ages, the resistance increases but remains under 2 Ω. Its isolation performance is strong with more than 65 dB isolation at 10 kHz, 60 dB at 100 kHz and 35 dB at 1 MHz. This helps to reduce crosstalk between channels in higher frequency applications.
The 781420-10 model’s relay operation is highly efficient by offering quick operate and release times with up to 8 relays functioning in under 1 ms and up to 50 relays in less than 2 ms. The mechanical life expectancy of the relays reaches an impressive 1 billion cycles while the electrical life depending on load conditions ranges from 1 million to 100 million cycles. This ensures longevity even in high demand applications. Each relay consumes 50 mW and the total power consumption limit for the card is 8.8 W. The card has a compact physical design with dimensions of 11.2 cm x 1.2 cm x 17.1 cm and a weight of 240 g. The NI 781420-10 adheres to stringent safety standards including IEC 61010-1 and UL 61010-1. It also meets electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for Class A emissions. This ensures it can be used safely in professional laboratory and industrial environments.
