National Instruments 781438-01 Multifunction I/O Device

National Instruments manufactures the 781438-01, also known as the USB-6341, which is a multifunctional and adaptable I/O device. With its integration of 24 digital I/O channels, 2 analog outputs, and 16 analog inputs, it can be used for a variety of tasks, from simple data logging to intricate control and test automation. With its sophisticated NI-STC3 timing and synchronization technology, this device offers retriggerable measurement jobs together with independent analog and digital timing engines.

Eight differential channels or sixteen single-ended channels with a 16-bit ADC resolution are available in the analog input section. Measurements are highly accurate and reliable since the device ensures there are no missing codes. It offers good signal integrity with a modest 1.2 MHz signal bandwidth and crosstalk standards of -75 dB for neighboring channels and -90 dB for nonresidential channels at 100 kHz. Robust data management via USB Signal Stream or programmed I/O is made possible by the scan list memory's capacity to store up to 4,095 entries and input FIFO size of 2,047 samples.

For analog output, the 781438-01 offers two channels with a 16-bit DAC resolution. Precision output operations can be performed with great reliability because the device guarantees 16-bit monotonicity and a differential non-linearity of ±1 LSB. Applications needing precise and consistent analog signals must have this characteristic.

There are eight channels on port 0 and sixteen PFI channels in the digital I/O area, totaling 24 channels. Because each terminal can be separately programmed to function as an input or output, it provides versatility for a range of digital control applications. The device guarantees reliable operation in many situations with its input voltage protection of ±20 V on up to two pins and a typical pull-down resistor of 50 kΩ (minimum 20 kΩ).

Additionally, the 781438-01 has four 32-bit general-purpose counters/timers that can be used to measure a variety of parameters, such as pulse width, period, semi-period, edge counting, and two-edge separation. Position measurements are performed using two-pulse encoding and quadrature encoding of X1, X2, and X4 with Channel Z reloading. The output applications span equivalent time sampling, frequency division, and pulse and pulse train production with dynamic updates.
