National Instruments 780143-01 Remote Control Module
The National Instruments 780143-01 is a robust VXIbus extender module designed for C-size VXI systems. It is also known as the VXI-8360T. It provides efficient remote control and expansion of VXI systems by extending the capabilities of the VXIbus mainframe. The module is fully compliant with the VXIbus Mainframe Extender Specification (VXI-6). This allows users to extend both triggers and clock signals between chassis thus enabling communication across different chassis configurations. The module features eight TTL backplane triggers and a PXI_CLK10 clock signal which can be conveniently extended using the front-panel connectors.
Each of the eight triggers along with the PXI_CLK10 clock is independently configurable and provides flexibility for system configuration. These triggers can be set as inputs or outputs depending on the user’s application. This enables seamless integration of multiple devices within the system. The trigger bus follows a daisy-chain topology. This allows for the interconnection of up to six devices with a maximum cable length of 19 meters. This ensures robust and stable communication between connected devices. The 780143-01 module supports both static and dynamic power requirements across various voltage levels. It operates with a typical current of 1.600 A at + 5 V, 0.020 A at + 12 V, 0.177 A at - 5.2 V and 0.060 A at -2 V under DC conditions. It maintains consistent performance even under dynamic conditions. The module fits into a single VXI C-size slot.
The NI 780143-01 module has dimensions of 23.3 x 34.0 cm and weighs approximately 1.3 kg. This ensures easy installation and handling within a VXI mainframe. The front-panel I/O connectors include an external clock (EXT CLK) SMB connector which provides a 50 Ω source terminated output driver and a TRIG IN and TRIG OUT SMB connector for input/output triggers. These connectors ensure reliable data transmission and system synchronization across the connected chassis. The environmental specifications ensure the 780143-01 module can operate in harsh conditions with an operational temperature range of 0 to 55 °C and a storage range of - 40 to 85 °C. The module can also withstand random vibrations and shocks as per military standards.
